What is SCORM & how do I use it to create a free online quiz?

I thought I would do a post explaining Scorm Cloud.  I signed up for the free trial and have made a fun little wine related quiz using Scorm Cloud Quizzage. You can see the process here and take the quiz yourself.

What is SCORM?

Scorm and its latest development, Tin Can, are often mentioned in online learning and especially in workplace training. SCORM stands for ‘Shareable Content Object Reference Model’ and is basically a tech tool that links your different elearning software and provides you with feedback.

If software is Scorm compliant it means it works with Scorm.  So you can use Scorm to track your learning, give you feedback and also to link different training software.

Scorm Cloud is a place where you can upload your content and also link content from different online places so that you can track your courses and get feedback all in ONE place.

If you have activities on Facebook, Moodle, WordPress (and more) you can link these all into the one place.  Scorm Cloud is especially good if you don’t have an LMS.

Yes, it costs money $$$ you can have a subscription and how much you pay depends on the size of your training.  However, you can give it a free trial.

Remember, Scorm is NOT support for best practices, however it IS software to support the technical aspects of your training.

Scorm Cloud has a feature where you can make your own online quizzes, this is called ‘quizzage‘.  I just had a play with quizzage and although the free trial has very basic options I was pleased at how incredibly simple it is to use.

How to create an online quiz on Scorm Cloud’s Quizzage

Go to the Scorm trial sign up page by clicking here and sign up for the free trial.

Enter your details and you will be taken through to the home page which looks like this:

Click on the ‘Quizzage‘ link in the blue box on the far right hand side – this writing appears very small.

Click the ‘Create New Template‘ button to start making your quiz.

Here’s what it looks like:

Give your quiz a catchy title by clicking on ‘edit‘ changing the writing and clicking on ‘apply‘.

Then create the quiz by adding new questions and entering the content you want in your quiz.

When you’re done click the ‘publish‘ button.

Your quiz will be in the library section (menu on left hand side). You can click the ‘preview‘ button under your quiz name to give it a trial.

To edit anything scroll down to ‘Overwrite Course Files‘ and click on ‘edit the quiz‘.

You can invite people to come and take your course.  I’ve created a public invitation so anyone can see how the finished product looks (Scorm Cloud does ask for your email to track your training & you may have to allow the pop ups):

Please go ahead and trial the quiz by clicking on the link below.

– if you have any ‘how to’s’ or ‘what is’ questions that you want answers to, please just me know.  You can contact me directly by clicking here.

Hi Dileepkumar, thanks for your reply. Do you have students that don’t have internet access, if so, how are you providing the course to them? I would need to know more about your delivery methods to look into delivering an offline quiz. Feel free to PM me using the contact page on the top menu. Regards, Rebecca.

        Thanks for your quick response.

I am providing the course to the students using a pen drive or a CD.

Hiya, Moodle has a function to burn to a CD or USB stick as well as many offline quiz features. Go to the site and have a look there. Moodle is open source and there is a lot of support and extra features. Some presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint) have the ability to adapt for learning including quiz features, these can be delivered entirely offline. Have a look at Open Office or Libre Office.
          I hope that helps!
